49ers All-Pro TE George Kittle’s Status Revealed For Week 3 vs Rams
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle has officially been ruled out of the 49ers’ Week 3 game against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium, via Nick Wagoner of ESPN. Kittle was previously listed as questionable going into the game but has since been ruled out.
After practicing on Wednesday, Kittle did not practice on Thursday or Friday because of a hamstring injury. Kittle was carted off into the locker room during the 49ers’ Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings but returned to the game after getting an IV during the second half.
Kittle has caught 11 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown through the first two weeks of the season.
The 49ers loaded skill position has been depleted by injuries over the first few weeks of the season. Along with Kittle, All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey landed on injured reserve with an Achilles injury. He will be Sunday, and at least two more games before he is eligible to return.
Wide receiver Deebo Samuel is also expected to miss at least the next two games because of a calf injury. Samuel did not practice all week. The loss of Samuel is a major blow to the receiving core, especially after he led the team in receiving against the Vikings with eight receptions for 110 yards.
The positive for the 49ers is they have plenty of depth offensively. Running back Jordan Mason has rushed for at least 100 yards in each of the first two games of the season with McCaffrey out, including 147 yards and a touchdown in the season opener win against the New York Jets.
While the losses of Samuel and Kittle hurt, the 49ers do have wide receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings, who each were signed to extensions with the team this offseason.

The other reason the 49ers should be able to brace the losses of three All-Pros is the Rams are also dealing with numerous injuries. Rams wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, offensive linemen Steve Avila, Jonah Jackson, and Joe Noteboom, and safety John Johnson on IR. Nacua, Avila, Jackson, Noteboom, and Johnson have all landed on IR.
Without their top two receivers and multiple starting offensive linemen, the 49ers pass rush and defensive backs should be able to take advantage of the less experienced group on Sunday. If not, the reigning NFC champions will have to settle for a disappointing 1-2 start.
