Deli Meat Recall as New Death, Hospitalizations Reported
A third person has died in a listeria outbreak linked to Boar’s Head deli meats, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The popular lunch meat brand broadened a recall in late July for millions of pounds of its deli meats after a sample of liverwurst tested positive for listeria. The recalled products were distributed nationwide from May 10 to July 29.
As of Thursday, 43 hospitalizations—nine additional cases since the CDC’s last update on July 31—across 13 states have been connected to the recalled meat. The CDC also reported that the additional death occurred in Virginia. The other two deaths were reported in New Jersey and Illinois.
This is a developing story and will be updated as further information becomes available.
