Watch Stray Kitten Choose Home With 2 Giant Dogs Who Have Never Seen a Cat
The story of a tiny kitten who chose two giant dogs to be her new friends has captured viewers’ hearts across the internet.
Megan, a brand designer from Ireland, shared a video to TikTok on August 16 showing how, as she put it, “The cat distribution system just targeted my dogs.”
In a clip shared to her account @mocdesignco, which boasts over 23,000 likes, a stray calico kitten can be seen venturing into Megan’s kitchen, where her Bernese mountain dog, Hugo, sniffs her curiously. The kitten gets spooked and runs back through the door, with two giant dogs following after her. Newsweek has contacted @mocdesignco for comment via TikTok on this story.
“A kitten showed up outside our house a couple of days ago,” Megan wrote on the video. “Bear in mind, we’re very much a dog family and these dogs have never seen a cat up close in their lives.”
However, while the kitten fled, the next day she was found outside again—and as time went by, she got a little closer, and would interact with the dogs as they all got to know each other.
The video showed the animals sniffing each other and even beginning some careful playtime, with both dogs treating the kitten gently and following her wherever she went.
And she began cuddling up to them, too, kneading the sofa as she lay with her new giant siblings, one clip showing the kitten climbing on the Bernese, Hugo, and even standing her ground as he playfully jumped toward her.
Megan, who called the kitten Mona after learning she was a female, received a huge response from animal lovers on TikTok, with hundreds of people flooding the comments.
One wrote: “Imagine being that tiny and having two gigantic fluffy monsters wanting to be your friend and protectors!”
“She absolutely loves your Bernese,” another posted, pointing out the clear bond between Mona and Hugo.
“I’m so impressed by the gentleness of your dogs, seriously, they are a testament to you,” a third commented, as yet another agreed the dogs are “totally loving on her,” and congratulating Megan on “becoming a cat momma.”
One described Mona as having the “heart of a lion” squaring up to the two, thankfully friendly and gentle giant dogs: as well as Hugo the Bernese mountain dog, there is Megan’s other dog, Teidí, a Newfoundland; they are two of the largest dog breeds in the world.
Berneses are popular breeds and are known for their good-natured temperament, according to the American Kennel Club. Newfoundlands are also described by the organization as being very gentle and easily trained.
