NASCAR Team Announces Purchase Of Bret Holmes Racing After Surprise Closure
From the ashes Bret Holmes Racing sort of rises again. A week after announcing that it was shutting down its doors immediately, Bret Holmes Racing’s assets were purchased by Late Model team owner Chris Hettinger. The organization will complete the 2024 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season under its new name, Hettinger Racing, with 2018 Truck Series champion Brett Moffitt at the wheel.
“Between the investments I’ve made over the years in our Late Model program and the opportunity to purchase Bret Holmes Racing, the time was right to grow Hettinger Racing into a team that can further drivers’ development by seamlessly transitioning them from Late Models to ARCA to Trucks,” Hettinger said. “We’ll continue our Late Model program by running the zMAX CARS Tour, and we’ll run select ARCA and Truck Series races that fit best with our overall schedule.”
Bret Holmes Racing opened shop in 2016 with racing in the ARCA Menards Series and won the series championship in 2020. In 2021 BHR began racing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, fielding the No. 32 truck driven by Bret Holmes, Sam Mayer, Connor Mosack and Ty Dillon. In total, BHR drove 63 Truck Series races and accrued seven Top 10 finishes.
This season BHR entered 20 Truck Series races but took a sabbatical after Holmes finished ninth on October 4 at Talladega Superspeedway. The hiatus from racing gave Hettinger time to complete his purchase of BHR before the final two Truck Series races this season. Brett Moffitt will drive the No. 4 Chevrolet Silverado at Martinsville Speedway and Phoenix Raceway to close out the season for the newly formed Hettinger Racing.
“Brett Moffitt gives us a great opportunity to get a head start on 2025,” Hettinger said. “He’s proven himself in the Truck Series and his feedback from this week’s race at Martinsville and next week’s race at Phoenix will be invaluable.
“We’ve had a lot to do in a short period of time to get ready for these last two Truck Series races, and we’re confident the effort we’re putting in now will pay dividends next year.”
Moffitt has raced in the NASCAR Cup, Xfinity and Truck series. In ten Truck Series seasons he has 13 career wins, 41 Top 5 and 55 Top 10 finishes, and in 2018 he was crowned the series champion.
“I said earlier this year that when it came to racing, I wanted quality over quantity, and the equipment Chris Hettinger already had was second to none. With his purchase of Bret Holmes Racing, Chris’ operation is scaled up and ready to tackle the Truck Series,” said Moffitt. “I feel like the potential is there, and I’m really looking forward to driving their Chevy and getting Hettinger Racing prepared for next year.”
