Gen X Man Speechless at What He’s Asked While Staying at ‘Posh’ Hotel
A couple were left in fits of laughter when they were staying at a fancy hotel and a fellow guest mistook the husband for a cage fighter.
Clare and Damion Barrington-Chappell from Bristol in the United Kingdom were staying at an up-scale hotel near Winchester, Hampshire, together when the interaction happened, leading to a hilarious viral video on TikTok.
“It was a guy outside a restaurant who Damion thought he recognized,” Clare told Newsweek.
Damion went up to the man, who he thought he recognized, and asked if he was famous. The man responded, asking Damion if he was famous, revealing that he reminded him of a cage fighter.
Clare shared a clip on TikTok following the interaction, which has received 192,000 views in just two days.
“When you stay in a posh hotel and realise your husband might look rough,” she wrote in the text overlay of the video. In the clip, her husband can be seen walking down the hall, expressing his disbelief that he was mistaken for a cage fighter.
“Did that guy ask me if I was a cage fighter?” he asks his wife in the video. As his wife laughs, he reveals that he doesn’t think he looks like a cage fighter and that he actually works in Human Resources.
The U.K. is home to a number of up-scale hotels, with over 150 five-star hotels across the country, according to a study by Iconic Luxury Mall. However, this is far outweighed by the number of budget-friendly chain hotels such as Travelodge and Premier Inn.
Clare’s video received over 16,000 likes, as well as many comments, with people sharing their thoughts and reactions to the video.
Clare Marie commented: “When he turned round he looked so fierce, then he spoke and he has the loveliest voice.”
Meanwhile, Ravn wrote under the video: “I look like a younger, more pierced version and I work in DEI [Diversity Equality and Inclusion]… people have made assumptions in the past.”
“Yeah, I get this problem. It’s the shoulder and beard combo. Oonce I check into a nice golf course hotel a bit early and I’ve been asked if I’m here to fit some gates,” said Sir.
“I mean for the first 0.2 seconds when he turned around “Yeah I get it…” but then he spoke,” @ThisgirlJT shared.
BeeBee said: “I think it’s a compliment on his physique. I’d take it and smile.”
“Idk [I don’t know], HR and cage fighting might be closer related than you think,” @laurennnvine joked.
