Penguins’ Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin Make NHL History vs Devils


One season after finishing four points out of last place in the Metropolitan Division, the Pittsburgh Penguins have seen quite the turnaround during the 2025-26 season.

Riding a three-game win streak, Pittsburgh has won five of its last six games and sits firmly in second place in the Metro Division behind the Carolina Hurricanes with just here more regular-season games remaining.

In Thursday’s 5-2 win over the New Jersey Devils, the Penguins kept their hot streak alive, and perhaps more importantly franchise cornerstones Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin wrote their names in the NHL record books.

“DYNAMIC DUO 💪 Malkin and Crosby are the first set of teammates in NHL history to record 60+ points in the same season at age 38 or older (age at start of season) 🔥,” the ESPN Insights X account posted on Thursday night.

Crosby tallied two assists on four shots on goal in 14:43 of ice time, while Malkin added a goal and an assist in 17:13 of ice time.

The 38-year-old Crosby leads the Penguins in points (74) and ranks second in goals (29), behind only Anthony Mantha (31). He’s one goal away from recording his 15th season with 30 or more goals, and he’s six points away from logging his 15th season with 80 or more points.

Conversely, Malkin is fourth on the team in points (61) and fifth in goals (19). He’s one goal away from reaching his 16th season with 20 or more goals, and he’s hit the 60-point plateau for the 14th time in his career.
