Elizabeth Debicki To Join The Crown For Seasons 5 And 6 To Play Princess Diana
One of the major casting questions about the Netflix series The Crown is who would be playing Princess Diana in upcoming seasons. The question is now answered, as the streaming service has announced that The Great Gatsby and Widows star Elizabeth Debicki would be taking over the role from Emma Corrin who is playing her in the upcoming season 4.
Debicki, who is also one of the stars of the upcoming Christopher Nolan film Tenet, said in a statement that “Princess Diana’s spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many. It is my true privilege and honour to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one.”
Netflix previously announced the Queen Elizabeth II would be be recast for seasons 5 and 6, as it was for season 3, and would be played by Harry Potter alum Imelda Staunton. Staunton is to be joined in the cast by Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret and Jonathan Pryce in the role of Prince Philip.
Debicki is well known for her height, standing at 6 feet 3 inches, which for many fans of the royal family is a great relief. Diana herself stood at 5 feet 10 inches, but has been typically played by much shorter actresses in the past.
