Hearts Melt as Cat Thinks Pet Bunny ‘Is Her Baby’

A viral video of a cat thinking a pet bunny “is her baby” has melted hearts since it was shared online.

In a viral video uploaded to TikTok by prettyprincessa10 on December 20, the cat could be seen snuggling with the bunny and several kittens on her bed.

As the clip continued, the cat could be seen licking the bunny and appeared to be treating it with care while nursing her kittens.

“My cat thinks my bunny is her baby,” a caption on the TikTok video said.

The clip, which can be seen here, then continued with the rabbit appearing to be visibly at ease with the cat and kittens.

Newsweek has contacted prettyprincessa10 for comment via TikTok.

The New Jersey-based nonprofit the Animal Welfare Association (AWA) said cats and rabbits can co-exist in a home if they are properly introduced.

“It is important to always remember that cats are predators and rabbits are prey,” the AWA said. “If your cat exhibits predatory behavior, introducing a rabbit will put the rabbit in danger.

“Cats need space to run and play and so does a rabbit—but a running/hopping rabbit can trigger a cat’s prey drive.”

There are several things that owners of both cats and rabbits can do to ensure both of their pets remain safe in the home, which include:

  • Finding a neutral, well-lit space that is not frequently used by the rabbit as they are more territorial than cats.
  • Secure the rabbit in a safe enclosure.
  • As long as things are going well, allow the cat and the rabbit to interact with one another for at least an hour.
  • After several days of a few one-hour sessions like this, and feeling confident that no harm can come to either animal, move on to barrier-free introductions, making sure the rabbit has a place to escape and hide from the cat if things do not go well.

The clip has attracted an estimated 350,000 views and more than 98,000 likes since being uploaded to TikTok.

Many of those who saw the video praised the relationship between the cat and rabbit with several saying it was an adorable clip.

Mar Russo said: “Stop right now, this is the most adorable video I have ever watched.”

Garry added: “I had a cat who thought rubber coasters were her babies and her favorite one was the purple one.”

Star commented: “[I] can’t stop watching this adorable video.”

While Kyra posted: “This is so cute, OMG (oh my God).”
