Marjorie Taylor Greene Warns of ‘Greatest’ National Security Threat

Georgia Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene on Thursday warned of the “greatest” national security threat facing the nation.

“Are we facing a national security threat? It’s my duty to be honest with you. Yes. It’s real,” Greene wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

Greene went on to criticize President Joe Biden’s handling of the U.S.-Mexico border and the U.S. economy.

“However, perhaps the greatest threat is the federal government has become so powerful over the people that it leaks “intelligence” to the press in order to pressure Congress to make certain votes,” Greene’s post said. “Protect it’s own power to spy on it’s own citizens, maintain power and protect it’s own job security, and most terrifying of all has become weaponized to crush it’s political enemies.”

The post by Greene comes shortly after Ohio Republican Representative Mike Turner, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, issued a statement warning of “a serious national security threat.”

“I am requesting that President Biden declassify all information relating to this threat so that Congress, the Administration, and our allies can openly discuss the actions necessary to respond to this threat,” Turner said.

The statement sparked concern and speculation from many as Turner did not release any further information on what the “threat” could relate to. The Associated Press reported on Wednesday that a congressional aide speaking on the condition of anonymity said the threat was related to a Russian anti-satellite weapon.

According to the Associated Press, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded to the reports saying that it could be connected to a foreign aid bill to Ukraine that was passed in the Senate.

“It’s obvious that Washington is trying to force Congress to vote on the aid bill by hook or by crook,” Peskov said, the AP reported. “Let’s see what ruse the White House will use.”

In a statement obtained by Rebecca Beitsch of The Hill, House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Jim Himes, a Connecticut Democrat, said: “the classified intelligence product that the House Intelligence Committee called to the attention of Members last night is a significant one, but it is not a cause for panic.”

White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said on Wednesday that he was planning to meet with members of the House and Senate Intelligence Committees this week to discuss the threat.

In her post to X, Greene claimed that Biden was another threat facing the nation, saying that he is “a dementia patient in charge of our country and the nuclear football, who ripped our border wide open to over 10 million people and counting from over 160 countries around the world and 2 million of them we never caught.”

“All of this you I’m telling you didn’t come from the SCIF [sensitive compartmented information facility], you already know, and I’m depending on you to help me stop our greatest national security threat, the one from within,” Greene added.

A SCIF is a secure room within the U.S. Department of Defense to hold sensitive information relating to U.S. intelligence.
