Israel Attacks Yemen for First Time
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that fighter jets struck Houthi military targets in the area of the Al Hudaydah Port in western Yemen on Saturday, in an X, formerly Twitter post.
The IDF say the strikes are “in response to the hundreds of attacks” carried out by the Iran-backed group against Israel over the past few months, notably a drone attack on Tel Aviv Friday, which killed one person and wounded at least 10, according to the Associated Press. This was the first confirmed report of an Israeli strike on Yemen.
The Houthis have repeatedly attacked dozens of commercial ships in the Red Sea in an act of defiance against continued Israeli offensives in Gaza since Hamas’ October 7 attack.
This is a developing story and will be updated with additional information.
