A traveler returning a rental car at Vancouver International Airport left with more than expected after finding an animal running loose in the parking lot.
Reddit user Gone_and_Forgotten shared the rescue story to the subreddit r/aww last month. In it, the user explained he thought the bunny running around was someone’s pet until a lady almost stepped on the little fluff ball.
The rental car employees then explained the bunny had been there for a while, but no one could catch him. With a little “gentle coaxing and minimal resistance,” he grabbed the little bunny, shocking all the employees. He received pressure from his girlfriend, the employees and the sweet bunny’s face to take him home and he quickly obliged.
The bunny, who is now named Cinnabun, went home with good company. The user’s girlfriend loaded up on as much knowledge about Netherland dwarf rabbits as possible so they could properly care him.
Cinnabun quickly adjusted and has become very comfortable in his new home, the owner told Newsweek via Reddit. The couple have since added a second rabbit to the family as a companion for Cinnabun. However, this Redditor admitted, it was a “weak justification” because the bunnies are too adorable to resist.

Airport representative Alyssa Smith told Newsweek via email that the airport was not made aware of the rescue; however, employees are aware that the city of Richmond and Sea Island, where the airport sits, has a rabbit population.
“While we don’t have specific information about the number of rabbits on Sea Island, we take steps to deter their proliferation around our terminals,” Smith said.
The measures include signs encouraging people not to drop off their pets near the airport and avoid feeding wildlife. The airport also maintains the vegetation around the terminal, including growing low-value grasses for wildlife.
CTV Newspreviously reported the number of rabbits grazing the airport lawn reached about 50 in 2019. However, they kept multiplying.
“Safety is at the forefront of everything we do at YVR and unmanaged wildlife can pose a significant safety risk to aircraft,” Smith said. “This is why we work tirelessly to find the right balance that ensures the safety of our airfield, surrounding land, and airspace, and protects the natural environment on Sea Island.”

The Reddit post had people gushing over the tiny bunny, bringing in over 17,000 upvotes and 230 comments.
“Oh, I love you both for this. Rabbits are fantastic pets and your round boy is adorable,” said one user.
A second person commented: “Clearly, you were chosen by this bun. Love how excited the employee was.”
Another added: “He’s so fluffy he’s a ball! I LOVE HIM!”
