Cat Summoned by Harmonica Has Internet in Stitches: ‘Huge Bob Dylan Fan’

A cat summoned by the sound of a harmonica has taken the internet by storm, leaving viewers in stitches.

Kerry Kittelsen, a 30-year-old professional musician from New York, shared a heartwarming video on Reddit of her 8-year-old cat, Pudding, responding to the sound of her harmonica. The post, shared under the username u/lemonaderobot, has amassed more than 10,000 upvotes in the “cats” subreddit.

“I had just gotten home from work and was looking to find her to give her some treats,” Kittelsen told Newsweek.

“Whenever she hears music, especially the harmonica, she always comes running from wherever she might be hiding—so sure enough, she came out as soon as she heard the first note! Her reaction always makes me laugh, and I shower her in praise whenever she comes running.”

The video shows Pudding captivated by the jangly, folk sounds of the small reed instrument as she enters the room from elsewhere in the home, following the tune.

Pudding is a Scottish fold cat who has been with Kittelsen since the pet was a kitten.

Described as “bold, adventurous, and a bit of a diva,” Pudding is also an “absolute sweetheart who loves to be carried around and to listen to music,” according to her owner.

The feline has always had a penchant for music, something that has kept Kittelsen and her bandmates on their toes. They have had to make sure their guitar amps and drums are cat-free before playing, as Pudding sometimes tries to hide inside them. The feline has even been known to accompany her mom to gigs.

Pet food manufacturer Purina says that cats don’t typically have a natural affinity for music, as their hearing is tuned to different frequencies than human hearing.

However, some research says that cats may respond positively to music that has been specifically composed for their auditory range.

This might help explain why Pudding is so intrigued by the sound of the harmonica—it could be tapping into cat-friendly frequencies.

Scottish fold cats, like Pudding, are known for their distinctive folded ears and affectionate personalities. Originating from Scotland, these felines are particularly loyal and often form strong bonds with their owners.

They tend to be quite sociable playful and curious, which might contribute to Pudding’s love for music and her eagerness to join in whenever her mom starts playing.

The hilarious video resonated with many Reddit users, who shared stories of their own musically inclined pets.
