Chargers, Bills, and Dolphins All Add Free-Agent WR Help Post NFL Draft

There is always movement in the NFL, especially during the craziness of the offseason. Each team is looking to find the right pieces of its puzzle so that it can hold up the Lombardi Trophy at the end of the upcoming season. Where things stand right now, the Kansas City Chiefs are still the favorites to once again win the Super Bowl, as they will look to attempt a three-peat.

The Chiefs are the measuring stick for every other team in the NFL, which especially rings true in the AFC. Kansas City has become somewhat of a boogeyman for most teams around the league due to its dominance over the last few seasons.

But multiple AFC squads recently bolstered their offensive attack, adding in veteran wide receivers to see if they can make a difference.

The Miami Dolphins, Los Angeles Chargers, and Buffalo Bills all made smaller moves that they hope can help them take down Kansas City. To start, Miami signed three-time Pro Bowler Odell Beckham Jr. to a one-year deal that is worth $3 million guaranteed but can reach a maximum value of $8.25 million, according to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Beckham Jr. played for the Baltimore Ravens last season, posting 35 catches for 565 yards and three touchdowns. He should provide some extra veteran leadership to the Dolphins, giving them even more of an explosive offensive attack. Miami is banking on Beckham Jr. to help them become more relevant in the AFC after reaching the postseason last year.

Buffalo, meanwhile, announced via its official X account that it has brought in Chase Claypool, who played with the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins last season. It’s been a tough go for Claypool since entering the league, but the Bills believe that giving quarterback Josh Allen a downfield weapon like this could be beneficial. In total, Claypool posted 8.0 catches for 77 yards and 1.0 touchdowns last season.

If he can remain healthy, Claypool may be able to serve as an impactful player for the Bills. However, his inconsistency has doomed him throughout his young career, something he is hoping to flip with Buffalo.

And finally, the Chargers brought in former Pro Bowler D.J. Chark Jr. to give themselves more depth at the receiver position, according to Rapoport. He’s inking a one-year contract slated to pay him as much as $5 million. Los Angeles needed more help in its receiving room. Clearly the Bolts feel like Chark Jr. could provide them with that veteran presence that they have been missing. With new head coach Jim Harbaugh in the mix, the Chargers are looking to get themselves back to a place of contention after a frustrating 2023 season.

None of these three moves are likely to be massive game-changers, but they each have the chance to be impactful. Kansas City is the target for all but these three teams may have something to say when all is said and done.
