Cute Video of Puppy’s Backfire as He Tries to Bring Toy Upstairs: ‘I’m OK!’
Viewers are laughing after a determined puppy’s miscalculation sends him down a flight of stairs.
In the August 13 TikTok video posted under the account @winnie.da.p00ch, Winston the Labrador grabbed a stuffed toy with his mouth. The toy was about the size of Winston, but he didn’t care. He was determined to bring it upstairs one way or another.
Winston slowly climbed the stairs with his larger-than-life pickle toy. His tail wagged on each step as he approached the top. But when he finally reached it, disaster struck.
Winston paused, dropped the stuffed toy out of his mouth and looked back with pride at his accomplishment. But the toy landed too close to the edge and started rolling back down the stairs. Trying to rescue his toy, Winston went tumbling down with it.
The caption reads: “I’M OK!! my parents just told me no more playing on the stairs.”
Winston’s owner realized the pup couldn’t stop falling and immediately reacted. He came from behind the camera and reached out to catch Winston midway before he landed at the bottom, just in the nick of time. The clip ends as both owners go to console Winston and check the pup didn’t get hurt.
Accidents happen, especially as puppies try learning how to walk up and down the stairs. Older dogs might also have difficulties with stairs because of their aging joints or hip problems. To make the stairs safer for dogs of all ages, Canine Journal suggests blocking access to stairs with a gate, adding nonslip materials to the floors and installing a ramp or lift. And if your dog is small enough, you can carry it up and down the stairs.
Luckily, Winston’s owner told Newsweek via TikTok, the dog has “mastered the stairs” since this incident. One quick fall was enough for him to know he needs to be careful around the stairs from now on.
Winston’s close call quickly went viral on TikTok, reaching over 1.3 million views, 112,500 likes and 201 comments as of Thursday.
“Awww, I’m sorry for laughing sweet baby,” wrote a viewer. It was a mixture of laughing and worrying about the dog.
Luckily, the owner shared in the comments section that they couldn’t stop laughing after rewatching the video.
A second person commented: “Puppy was like, ‘My toy! I gotta go get it. Oops I’m falling help!'”
Another wrote: “Sometimes they just gotta fall to not do it again, just like kids.”
