Donald Trump Buying Groceries for Pennsylvania Mom Goes Viral

Former President Donald Trump’s recent campaign stop in Pennsylvania has garnered significant attention on social media after a video showing him purchasing groceries for a local mother went viral.

The moment, which took place at Sprankle’s Neighborhood Market in Kittanning, Pennsylvania, on Monday was posted to X by Margo Martin, Trump’s deputy director of communications.

In the video, Trump is seen interacting with a mother and her young sons on the checkout line. The Republican presidential nominee hands the woman a $100 bill, saying, “It’s going to go down a little bit, it just went down $100. We’re going to do this for you in the White House.” This gesture, along with Trump’s compliments to the woman’s children, quickly spread across various social media platforms.

Newsweek contacted Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung via email late Monday night for comment.

Conservative activist and Trump loyalist Charlie Kirk reposted the video on X, celebrating the former president’s act while mentioning the cost of groceries.

The grocery store visit occurred on the same day as Trump’s campaign rally at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, highlighting his focus on the battleground state. The event, held at the Ed Fry Arena, drew thousands of supporters adorned in Make America Great Again hats and Trump-themed apparel.

During his address to the crowd of about 5,000, Trump covered a wide range of topics including the economy, immigration, Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris and fracking. Trump’s emphasis on economic issues aligns with his recent statements on lowering grocery prices, a topic he also addressed during a town hall event in Flint, Michigan, this month.

Pennsylvania is bound to play a crucial role in the coming presidential election. With 19 Electoral College votes at stake, the state is considered a must-win for Democrats and Republicans. The former president’s history with the Keystone State is mixed, having won it in 2016 but losing to Joe Biden in 2020.

Polls show a tight race in Pennsylvania. According to poll aggregator FiveThirtyEight, as of September 23, Harris holds a slim lead over Trump, 48.3 percent to 46.8 percent—a margin of just 1.5 percentage points. Polling analyst Nate Silver has also predicted that Harris has a 57 percent chance of winning the state over Trump.
