F1 News: Sergio Perez Dismisses Red Bull Exit Rumors – ‘Know What’s In My Contract’
Formula 1 driver Sergio Perez confidently reaffirmed his future with the Red Bull team amid ongoing rumors of his potential departure after the summer break. Recent performances had sparked widespread speculation, as the Mexican driver managed to score only 21 points over six races, coupled with consecutive early exits in the qualifying rounds. Despite these challenges, Perez recently solidified his stay with a contract extension from Red Bull, designed to boost his morale and quell doubts about his place on the team.
Concerns over Perez’s form fuelled rumors, especially as he significantly trails his teammate, Max Verstappen, by 141 points. The situation prompted remarks from Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko, hinting at a forthcoming evaluation of Perez’s role during the team’s summer review. However, Perez remains confident about his status and the support from Red Bull. Speaking to the media ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix, Perez commented, as quoted by Motorsport Week:
“It’s no different to what it was in Hungary or in Bahrain or how it will be in Zandvoort or the rest of the year.
“Every single weekend we’ve got to deliver the maximum, especially now that with McLaren catching up in the Constructors, it’s important to put everything together if we can achieve it.”
When queried about whether he was sure that Spa-Francorchamps would not be his last race with the Milton Keynes-based squad, he commented:
“Yes, correct.
“I know basically what’s in my contract and I know what the team trusts in me. And I know where is the main focus, which is on delivering on the track.”
Despite facing rising pressure, Perez remains undistracted and focused on reviving his season.
“I haven’t spoken about that particular point [with Marko], I think.
“Like I said, I feel like the whole team is fully focused on getting back on track, on getting our season back on track. And the rest is pure speculation.
“The team is really working hard with me to get the season back on track.
“Winning the Constructors’ Championship, it’s all what we are working on. There hasn’t been any further discussions than getting our season back on track.”
He continued:
“I’m not worried about it. Like I said, I know where I stand. That’s not my concern.
“My only concern I have is to get my season back on track. The rest, I’m pretty chilled about.
“It’s how it is and I’m fine with it. I’m focused within the team to get the maximum out of the team, out of the car. The rest, like I said, it’s pure speculation.”
As the F1 season progresses, Perez’s efforts to recalibrate his performance will be crucial in determining his future with Red Bull.
