Laughter as Mama Cat ‘Crashed Out’ After Putting Her Six Kittens to Sleep

A video showing a shattered mother cat catching a break after putting her six orange kittens to bed has gone viral on TikTok.

The video, posted by user @xheavens_icecreamx, has garnered over 2.6 million views since it was shared on August 26, highlighting the universal struggle of motherhood—even in the animal kingdom.

The footage, which has quickly become a hit on the platform, features a weary feline sprawled out on a carpeted floor, lying on her side with her paws in the air and her belly exposed.

A message overlaid on the clip reads: “POV [point of view]—she’s a momma cat who just put her litter of six orange kittens to bed finally.” The scene resonated deeply with social media users, who see the feline’s state as a reflection of the exhaustion many mothers feel after tending to their young.

Cats, like the one in the video, that sleep on their sides are typically seen as relaxed and trusting of their environment. According to Vicki Jo Harrison, the president of The International Cat Association (TICA), this position is a strong indicator of a cat’s comfort and sense of security.

“A side-sleeping cat indicates a cat is very relaxed. This position usually results in a longer and deeper sleep and conveys that your cats feel secure and at peace,” Harrison explained in a September 2022 interview with Newsweek. She added: “A cat in this position is trusting and cuddly because they know their owner will protect them.”

This sentiment is echoed by veterinarian Dr. Lori Teller from the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University. In a September 2022 interview with Newsweek, Teller explained that a cat lying on its back with its belly up is another sign of deep trust and contentment. “When a cat is on its back, with its belly up, it’s a sign that the cat trusts you and is willing to expose vulnerable organs to you,” Teller noted. She added that this position allows the cat to remain semi-alert, yet content, ready to respond to any changes in its surroundings.

‘Get That Momma a Drink’

The viral video not only illustrates feline behaviors but also struck a chord with those who relate to the mother cat’s apparent fatigue. Comments flooded in from TikTok users expressing their empathy and humor.

User vyyynoholike commented on the clip, noting: “the way she crashed out before even reaching her bed,” while tarvizle said: “Home girl is BEAT.” Another user, the333rdchild, pointed out: “oh she’s tiiired!”

The video also sparked commentary on the sheer challenge of caring for a large litter, with heluvsprincessssss exclaiming: “6 orange kittens is crazy,” and @amareyae1 humorously suggested: “get that momma a DRINK.”

The global nature of parenting fatigue was succinctly captured by VoodooDoll, who noted: “being a mom is a universal struggle,” while @h3r.m0rgue summed up the sentiment with, “she’s so relatable.”

Newsweek has contacted the original poster for comment via TikTok. This video has not been independently verified.
