Meghan Markle’s 5 Most Glamorous Evening Gowns
When Meghan Markle married Prince Harry in 2018 she was no stranger to the red carpet or paparazzi, coming to the role of royal princess with an innate understanding of her own personal aesthetic in front of the cameras.
Through her two years as a working royal in Britain and four years since splitting from the monarchy and moving to the U.S. to become an entertainment industrialist and philanthropist alongside Prince Harry, Meghan has kept her title as one of the most-talked-about women on the planet.
Known for her favored nude color pallet and a penchant for earth tones in her wardrobes, Meghan’s expansive collection of formalwear includes an array of spectacular evening gowns.
Whether walking the red carpet in Los Angeles or attending a charitable gala in New York, the Duchess of Sussex has an evening gown to match any occasion, often coming with the praise of the eagerly waiting fashion press.
Here, Newsweek looks at five of Meghan’s most glamorous evening gowns worn for official events since her marriage, from Paris couture to American chic.
Safiyaa London in London
One of Meghan’s chicest evening engagement appearances as a working royal came in November 2018, when she attended the annual Royal Variety Performance in London alongside Prince Harry.
For the occasion, the duchess wore a monochrome dress in black and white sequins with an elongated bustier and floor-length black skirt by the fashion label, Safiyaa London.
Christian Dior in Morocco
Royal tours presented Meghan with the responsibility of representing Queen Elizabeth II and the U.K. overseas.
For an official visit to Morocco in February 2019 while pregnant with her first child, Prince Archie, Meghan stunned in a gold-toned kaftan-inspired evening gown designed by the haute couture studios of the Paris fashion house of Christian Dior.
Carolina Herrera in New York City
After splitting from the monarchy in 2020 and the restriction on social gatherings enforced during the COVID pandemic, Meghan and Prince Harry made their gala debut at the Salute to Freedom veterans event held in New York City in November 2021.
For the event, Meghan wore a specially designed evening gown in vivid red silk designed by Wes Gordon, the creative director of the fashion house belonging to Carolina Herrera.
The dramatic gown featured a plunging neckline and layered overskirt in a red hue which paid tribute to the poppy flower, an international symbol associated with remembrance.
Christopher John Rogers in Los Angeles
In February 2022, Meghan and Harry accepted the President’s Award at the NAACP Image Awards in Los Angeles.
Making her on-stage appearance to accept the award and deliver a speech with her husband, Meghan wore a glamorous floor-length asymmetric evening gown designed by Christopher John Rogers.
The gown featured an extended floating chiffon panel falling from the shoulder in an ombre of blue tones, and a high thigh-length split at the skirt.
Proenza Schouler in Los Angeles
Meghan ended 2023 with a showstopping appearance on the red carpet for the Variety Power of Women Gala which saw the duchess debut a new floor-length asymmetric evening gown designed by New York-based womenswear brand, Proenza Schouler.
The gown featured a draped bodice and split skirt in a soft nude tone.
