Meghan Markle’s High Fashion Appearance Praised by Fans
The Duchess of Sussex’s celebrated style has become the focus of a new viral video, after footage of the royal’s appearance at a high-profile ceremony in London in 2022 has resurfaced on TikTok.
Since her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018, Meghan has become one of the world’s most closely watched royal women from a fashion perspective. The outfits she wears for public and private occasions are faithfully reported on and analyzed by the fashion press.
From the start of her royal career, Meghan’s style choices have raised eyebrows, particularly when she was a working royal on behalf of the monarchy. The duchess’ penchant for French couture bucked the trend of royals in Britain nearly exclusively dressing in British fashion for high-profile events, in particular royal weddings.
For her wedding dress, Meghan opted for an haute-couture gown from the Paris fashion house of Givenchy. This rogue choice came in contrast to the duchess’ sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, who was married in an Alexander McQueen creation.
Though made in Paris by a French couture house, Meghan’s dress did have an important link to Britain; it was designed by the house’s creative director, the British-born Clare Waight Keller.
Meghan and Waight Keller have maintained a working relationship. On February 22, they were photographed having lunch together in California. Waight Keller left Givenchy in 2020, the same year Meghan left the royal family and moved to the U.S.
In addition to Givenchy, Meghan has dressed in some of France’s other most-famous fashion brands from Chanel to Christian Dior. The latter designed one of Meghan’s standout event outfits, praised in a new viral clip.
Uploaded to TikTok by user @princess__jo earlier this month, footage of the duchess arriving at the thanksgiving service for the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II has been praised by fans. The elegant white coat dress outfit chosen for the occasion is prominently featured.
Meghan attended the ceremony at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London on June 3, 2022 alongside Prince Harry. It marked their first public appearance together at a major royal event since their controversial split from the monarchy two years earlier, and since their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.
For the occasion, Meghan was dressed in a design by Maria Grazia Chiuri, the creative director at the house of Christian Dior. Taking the form of a classically tailored coat dress, the creation was inspired by British menswear, with a back vent across the shoulders akin to those found in raincoats. The coat dress was made in a pale chalk color with a matching hat, gloves and shoes.
The footage of the duchess at the event talking with guests and holding hands with Prince Harry has been viewed more than 280,000 times. The video has received in excess of 6,500 likes and almost 400 comments, many of which have praised Meghan’s impactful style.
“Gorgeous outfit Meghan,” wrote one TikTok user.
“So in love loved this outfit,” posted another, with a further comment reading: “Beautiful and loving couple.”
