MLB Insider Links Dodgers Starter Jack Flaherty To Three Powerhouse Contenders

Jack Flaherty didn’t receive a long-term contract in free agency last offseason. Instead, he landed with the Tigers on a one-year deal before being traded to the Dodgers at the trade deadline.

After winning the World Series with the Dodgers, Flaherty is once again a free agent. And Flaherty once again has his sights set on a multi-year contract.

According to insider Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, Flaherty should be able to land himself a multi-year deal, largely because of how top-heavy the starting pitching market is in free agency.

“Flaherty’s first dalliance with free agency didn’t go well a year ago, as he bet on himself with a one-year, $14 million deal with the Tigers. His gamble paid off, as the right-hander pitched well in 18 starts with Detroit before being dealt to the Dodgers prior to the Trade Deadline,” Feinsand wrote. “He went 6-2 with a 3.58 ERA in 10 regular-season starts for Los Angeles, helping the club reach the World Series, then had a great Game 1 start to further enhance his attractiveness. In a relatively thin starting pitching market — albeit a top-heavy one — Flaherty should be able to land the multiyear deal he struggled to find last offseason.”

Feinsand would finish up by naming the Dodgers, Red Sox and Mets as potential fits to sign the right-handed pitcher.

Flaherty has voiced his eagerness to return to the Dodgers after they captured the 2024 World Series championship.

Boston starter Lucas Giolito and Flaherty were high school teammates. Plus, Boston needs to add pitching, so the Red Sox make sense as well.

The New York Mets will be involved in free agency talks with just about every big-name free agent as they look to buy their way to superstardom in 2025.
