Nathan Wade Ripped For New Fani Willis Comments: ‘This is Gross’

Former Georgia special prosecutor Nathan Wade was criticized across social media on Wednesday for new comments about Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis as one law professor notes, “This is gross.”

Wade, who resigned in March, was one of the prosecutors in the Georgia election interference case against former president Donald Trump and 18 others who have been accused of trying to overturn his 2020 election loss in the state. The presumptive Republican presidential nominee, who has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, lost the state by some 12,000 votes.

Wade was forced to resign from the case in mid-March after his relationship with Willis, who brought the case, was revealed. Judge Scott McAfee, overseeing the case, ruled there was no conflict of interest but Willis could only remain on it if Wade quit.

On Tuesday, Wade appeared on The Daily Show’s segment of Choppin’ It Up With ‘Quon in which his romantic relationship with Willis was brought up as the in-character Marlon Wayans playing ‘Quon asked suggestive questions.

Newsweek has reached out to Wade via email for comment.

Wade began the interview by describing Willis as a “respectable mother,” and a “brilliant legal mind,” adding that the pair “spent countless hours preparing this case, investigating this case.”

However, as Wade navigates answering questions, ‘Quon continues to jokingly interject by making suggestive remarks about the pair’s relationship.

“I see how it happened, countless hours, and I need a foot rub, you know what I mean, and she rub your foot. And I’m like, ‘Hey let me give you a massage,’ and all of a sudden, boom boom, we up on this desk. Man,” ‘Quon said.

However, Wade insisted that was not the case stating, “No. Not even close. Not even close.”

In another part of the interview, ‘Quon asked who was interested in who to which Wade replied, “That’s a great question, right? So, during the course of the investigation, we would meet early mornings, weekends, spent full days—”

‘Quon interjected again to make another suggestive remark.

“How can you not hit that?! How can you not?!” interrupted Quon, as Wade laughed. “We spending that much time together, we doing everything, we might as well,” ‘Quon said.

The interview has since received mixed reactions on social media, with some users criticizing Wade for participating in the comments and publicizing.

In a post to X, formerly Twitter, Anthony Michael Kreis, a constitutional law professor at Georgia State University College of Law, criticized Wade’s comments calling it “gross”, adding that Willis and the people of Fulton County deserve better.

“This is gross. Nathan Wade should be embarrassed. And Fani Willis, whatever her mistakes, deserves better than this. As do the people of Fulton County,” Kreis wrote.

Adding in separate posts, “Nathan Wade’s casual misogyny popping out on national television. Can’t say Madam DA didn’t tell us on the stand though…The thing with Nathan Wade is I went from “he’s a human who messed up bad” to “he’s relishing in his massive f*** up.” The former is forgivable. The latter is not.”

X user The Shallow State wrote on X, “This is terrible, both politically and in general”.

In addition, political commentator Charlie Sykes wrote on X, “Stop. Just. Stop.”

Meanwhile, others in the comments of The Daily Show’s YouTube video praised the interview as one fan commented, “That is hilarious. And the fact that he got the joke and was able to laugh, that really elevates and humanizes him. Great interview.”

This comes as Willis and the case have continued to receive scrutiny, with several House members seeking to disqualify Willis from the case following misconduct allegations. In addition, an appeals court in Georgia indefinitely paused the case against Trump, pending a ruling on defendants’ efforts to disqualify Willis from the investigation.
