Woman Goes to Mom’s Hairdresser, Can’t Cope With Result

Hair can really change your mood, with a new ‘do a great way to give you a happiness boost and leave you walking out of the salon with your head held high.

However, this isn’t guaranteed, as one woman found out when a stylist transformed her from a young woman with a cute, cropped cut to a middle-aged mom from Long Island.

Comedian Kelly Reilly, 31, had trusted her mom’s recommendation and took a trip to her go-to hair stylist, only to be left with a haircut that “unlocked” her Long Island alter-ego, “Trish”.

Reilly shared a video of her new look, an inverted bob often referred to as the ‘Karen Cut’ thanks to its association with “Karens,” the nickname given to those whose actions fit the stereotype of an entitled and obnoxious middle-aged white woman.

Her new haircut quickly went viral and has received 797,000 views and 46,000 likes since it was shared on April 12.

Speaking to Newsweek about the cut, Los Angeles-based Reilly explained she was home in Long Island ahead of her sister’s bridal shower when her mom insisted she got a trim. The mom took matters into her own hands and booked her daughter in with her own go-to salon.

She said: “I was growing out a buzz cut, so I just sort of had a mullet vibe and my mom hated it, so she booked me an appointment to get it ‘fixed.'”

Despite the cut not being what she expected, she doesn’t hold any resentment towards the stylist responsible, and shared that: “She did her best, it was a $40 haircut ultimately. I have no bad blood.

“We joked about not making me look ‘like an aunt’… so I thought we were vibing [about the cut] … She added a bunch of layers, made me look like a grandma.”

Not wanting to upset the stylist, Reilly played down her thoughts in the salon chair. “My initial reaction was shock, but I totally played it off in the chair as if I loved it. We had a great conversation during the cut, and I do genuinely like her as a person, so I didn’t want to hurt her feelings. As soon as I walked out, I was laughing and taking pics of it to send to my friends back in L.A.”

Reilly’s reaction in private saw her capture the revival of “Trish,” Long Island’s answer to Karen, who the comic embodied in the video.

Putting on a thick Long Island accent, Reilly said: “Hey it’s Trish,” continuing in the character’s tone as she ran through Long Island stereotypes.

The comic explained: “me and my sister and my friends growing up on Long Island have always done characters like Trish… but in a very loving way. Trish is literally every woman who drove me to a soccer practice, planned a play date, picked me up from school. I was raised by an army of Trishs.”

While she’s embracing the Trish look for now, both Reilly and her mom are now on the same page about pre-wedding prep, as she agreed that “I need to get [my hair] fixed before my sister’s wedding in June.”
