Woman Meets Stray Dog on Mexico Vacation—Promptly Cancels Flight Home

A woman who immediately felt connected to a stray dog decided to extend her trip to Mexico to save the canine while her friends traveled home.

The woman’s friend, known on TikTok as @demibrows, applauded Nadya’s selfless act in a March 25 video. The clip shows Nadya instantly touched by the 2-year-old dog, crying at the thought that the pup had to live on the streets. The dog’s manners and resemblance to her pet back home were signs she needed to step in and give him a good life in Kansas City.

The dog, now named Camilo, started following the group on their beach walk. He even sat and laid on them while they hung out. But, the dog was in bad condition.

He was dirty and skinny with scabs all over his body, Nadya said in a TikTok video about the rescue, which was posted to the account @imsohaute.

Her friends were supportive when she told them she wanted to save this dog. The caption on the video reads: “She has a heart of literal GOLD.”

Nadya stayed behind to work on getting Camilo back to the United States. She first took him to the vet for a check-up where he was treated for ticks and parasites. He also got his vaccinations up-to-date. The vet cleared him for travel to the U.S., but Nadya had to overcome the hurdle of flying with pets onboard, an expensive and tedious process.

On March 31 she finally made the journey to the U.S. with Camilo. They landed in El Paso, Texas, where a friend picked them up. The stars aligned and that friend just so happened to be traveling toward the direction of where she lives, Kansas City, a nearly 15-hour road trip.

Camilo has already adjusted to his new life after the long journey home. Thanks to all the love, snuggles, and endless treats he is surrounded by, he knows he is safe and sound.

Newsweek reached out via TikTok to @demibrows and Nadya for comment.

‘Angel Friend’

The beautiful and thoughtful gesture quickly tugged at people’s heartstrings. As of Friday, the TikTok clip had over 6.2 million views, 882,100 likes, and 2,833 comments.

“She’s the kind of person that deserves to win the lottery,” commented one viewer.

Another added: “I’m crying lol you literally have an angel friend in a human body.”

A third user wrote: “We need more people like her.”
