Woman Reveals Why Her Mother-in-Law Is Her Biggest Flex

In a viral post shared on TikTok, a woman revealed the “new thing” her mother-in-law likes to do twice a week, and internet users can’t stop singing her praises.

The poster, @erin.monroe_, says in the video, shared in April, that her mother-in-law has recently started texting her while she is at work for a very specific reason.

“The new thing my mother-in-law likes to do is text me while I’m at work, and ask me if I want the kids to get off the bus at her house and then for her to make dinner for us, and we can come at, like, 5:30 and get the kids and have dinner and then go home. That’s what she’s been doing, like, twice a week,” she said.

The poster won’t let her mother-in-law ask twice; in fact, she is very grateful for the free time she and her husband get to have, thanks to her.

“Not only does that mean I get home from work and I can have my little workout, today I went for a walk with my husband alone! But this woman is such a good cook, like last week I had the best carnitas of my life at her house. It was pure magic! My biggest flex in motherhood is my mother-in-law 100 percent!” she added.

While the poster couldn’t be more grateful for her mother-in-law, many American people are living a different reality. But what is it that makes or breaks this relationship?

Psychology Today analyzed data from 351 women in December 2019, and found that most of the daughters-in-law who didn’t particularly get along with their spouse’s mothers felt this way for a variety of reasons.

Some said that their mother-in-law was favoring another child-in-law to them, while others thought they were trying to interfere with their marriages.

More over, other women in the study found they could not speak to their spouse’s mothers about important matters between them; that they made them feel anxious; and, last but not least, that they have different parenting philosophies.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 1.3 million views and over 151,500 likes on the platform.

One user, AKeynton, commented: “I will NEVER turn down babysitting and dinner. That sounds like a dream.” And Elizabeth posted: “This is the MIL [mother-in-law] and mom I aspire to be, when my children grow up.”

Beth Parsons wrote: “Love that she’s pouring into you and your marriage not just the kids. Note taken!”

Dana Matusov added: “Staying on the nontoxic MIL side!! Mine is literally amazing. Every time we go on vacation, we come home to a full fridge of meals. Every Sunday we have dinner, and we get leftovers.”
