Cardinals Find Kyler Murray Replacement in Gardner Minshew

The 2026 NFL free agency window has barely opened, and there have been an immense number of deals. The Arizona Cardinals are now participating, finding their Kyler Murray replacement in former Kansas City Chiefs backup, Gardner Minshew.

Per NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Minshew is signing a one-year, $5.75 million deal with Arizona that is worth up to $8.25 million in incentives.

The Cardinals previously announced that Kyler Murray would be released at the start of the league year, which begins on March 13. While the team needs a QB1, they look to Minshew to presumably fill that role.

Arizona might be looking to draft a quarterback, such as Alabama’s Ty Simpson or Penn State’s Drew Allar, but both come with some sizable risks.

There is also the 2027 quarterback class that is expected to be far better off, which includes Oregon’s Dante Moore and Texas’s Arch Manning. Either way, the Cardinals are bringing in reinforcements in the form of Minshew.
