Fani Willis Suffers Legal Blow In Fight Against Trump

A judge has denied Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ attempt to withhold payment of legal fees sought by President Donald Trump’s co-defendants, dealing a setback to the prosecutor who led the now-dismissed election interference case.

The ruling allows former defendants to continue pursuing nearly $17 million in attorney fees after the collapse of the prosecution. Under a Georgia law passed in 2025, defendants can seek reimbursement if a prosecutor is disqualified for improper conduct and the case is later dismissed.

Willis, who was removed from the case over conflicts of interest, had asked the court to dismiss the claims, arguing that the statute was unconstitutional and that her disqualification was not the cause of the case’s eventual dismissal.

This is a developing story. More to follow.
