Pat McAfee’s Latest WrestleMania Comments Spark Fan Outrage

Like it or not, one of the main characters of this year’s WrestleMania in Las Vegas at Allegiant Stadium is ESPN personality and former NFL punter Pat McAfee.

As we are only two days away from WWE’s biggest event of the year, McAfee is at the forefront of the promotion.

He is continually hyping up the show on his “The Pat McAfee Show” on YouTube and linear ESPN broadcast, and the former Indianapolis Colts player has inserted himself into Saturday’s main event between WWE champion Cody Rhodes and challenger Randy Orton.

While that has already drawn virtual tomatoes being thrown on social media, things might be getting worse for the diehard pro wrestling fan, as McAfee’s latest social media post about WrestleMania teases that he might have more to do this weekend than just Saturday’s main event.

On Sunday, the show will close with CM Punk defending his world heavyweight championship against Roman Reigns.

With McAfee bringing up Reigns and the possibility that there could be a crossover storyline involving the corporate side of the WWE, umbrella owner TKO, fans are now worried that both nights of ‘Mania might have McAfee as its main attraction.

Since the Bloodline’s dissolution at the climax of WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia, the WWE has been missing a high-level, overarching storyline to connect the biggest names in the company.

With John Cena’s retirement in 2025, the WWE had a bit of a cheat code to navigate the calendar year, but now that that’s done, WWE might see that McAfee has the engine for their next big story.

It wouldn’t be the first time the WWE has used the corporate higher-ups as the on-screen big bad, as it’s a common trope throughout the differing eras, but the sudden shift in storylines across the board heading into this weekend has made even the most hardcore WWE fan wary.

We’ve reached a point where if Pat McAfee somehow walked out of Sunday with both world title belts, it wouldn’t surprise anyone.

And that’s why WWE fans, two days before what is supposed to be their Christmas, are frightened.
