Alysa Liu Breaks Silence With Post After World Championships Dropout
The figure skating world received surprising news when United States star and Olympic gold medalist Alysa Liu made the decision to drop out of the world championships where she’s the reigning champion.
The decision comes after the ISU Figure Skating Championships announced 11 of 12 Olympic medalists would be skating in the event in a social media post highlighting the American. Liu hasn’t officially announced a reason for dropping out of the figure skating tournament, but she did recently reveal a scary situation she found herself in after landing at an airport.
“So I land at the airport, & there’s a crowd waiting at the exit with cameras & things for me to sign,” she wrote in an Instagram story. “All up in my personal space. Someone chased me to my car bruh. Please do not do that to me.”

As of Saturday night Liu still hasn’t quite revealed why she decided to drop out of the high profile event, but she did take to her Instagram story with her first post since the news broke. She threw up a peace sign to the camera as a new song by P-Lo featuring the Oakland native’s name played over the photo.
The American figure skater has done a number of media appearances over the past week and sat down with Rolling Stone for an interview this week. She revealed she’s been overwhelmed by the number of messages she’s received.
“I have so many messages, so I haven’t gone through most of them, I would say … I’m going to be honest, I haven’t really been working through it,” she admitted.
American Sarah Everhardt will replace Liu at the World Championships.
