Cat âHumblesâ OwnerâInternet Canât Stop Laughing at What It Did
A short but painfully relatable moment between a cat and her owners has left millions of people laughing after it was shared on social media.Â
In a viral Instagram video posted in February under the username @tofufuthefloof, a fluffy white cat named Tofu is seen sitting confidently on a coffee table while her parents sit on opposite ends of the couch. Â
Both owners call her over, waiting to see whom she will choose. Tofu pauses, looks from one side to the other, and appears to seriously weigh her options. Then, without hesitation, she makes her choiceâand walks straight to her dad.Â
The moment struck a nerve online, especially for pet owners who know the quiet sting of being passed over by their own animal. Â
The caption perfectly captured that feeling: “Nothing humbles you more than a cat that looks at you, considers you, and chooses someone else. Worst betrayal.”Â
The videoâs creator, Cathy from Florida, told Newsweek that Tofu is a “very sassy Siberian floof” and explained that the original plan didnât quite work out the way she had hoped. Â

She and her husband adopted Tofu because her husband works long hours, and Cathy was meant to be the primary recipient of the catâs affection. Instead, things went in the opposite direction. Â
Tofu quickly bonded with Cathyâs husband, leaving her jokingly relegated to second place. “Basically, she was supposed to be my emotional support cat,” Cathy said. “Instead, she immediately bonded with my husband and now treats me like the spare.”Â
That dynamic is on full display in the now-viral video. “You can literally see her pause and consider her options,” Cathy said, “before confidently choosing my husband. Every time. Itâs a humbling experience, to say the least.”Â
Despite the ongoing snub, Cathy said there may be hope. She shared that Tofu has softened toward her recently and hinted at a possible shift in the household rankings. The affection may still be limited, but she is making progress. Â
“She has been slightly more affectionate toward me lately, so Iâd like to think Iâm slowly moving up in the rankings,” she said. “Still very much a work in progress, though; one day, Iâll earn full cuddling rights!”Â
The video has clearly resonated far beyond their living room. It has racked up more than 1.2 million views on Instagram, along with over 124,000 likes on the platform, turning Tofuâs quiet decision into a shared moment of humor for cat lovers everywhere.Â
One user, Sprinklethesiberian, commented: “Itâs not easy being the spare.”Â
Raisingollieandtheo said: “Pick me. Choose me. Love me.”Â
Jaclique2 added: “Eww this really makes me sad when she chooses my husband that does absolutely nothing for her over me who does everything for her!!!!”Â
